This is probably counting other forms of MGM which are prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa.
Yeah, I looked up the more current information on it and I guessed right.>Circumcision has been practised for non-religious reasons for many thousands of years in sub-Saharan Africa, and in many ethnic groups around the world, including aboriginal Australasians (20, 21), the Aztecs and Mayans in the Americas (5, 22, 23), and inhabitants of the Philippines and eastern Indonesia (8) and of various Pacific islands, including Fiji (24) and the Polynesian islands (7).
This is not true lol. Circumcision is a specific type of modification. MGM is far more diverse than just that. As usual, the advocates are exaggerating the numbers and conflating different practices to push acceptance of their specific pseudo-medical version (and to support the notion that the practice is common-sense or logical since it is alleged to be done uniformly in many places). That's also a way of distancing the practice from FGM, which is more often acknowledged as having a diversity of practices. The reality is there is a huge variety, even moreso than FGM, and includes differences like flaying all
the skin from the penis, subincision (cutting open the length of the whole urethra), or of course castration.
