I'm making this thread here, because the other boards are practically dead. If a mod chooses to move it to /hobby/, that's cool, I just wanted some exposure on /leftypol/. As you might now, chess played a large role in the Soviet Union. They outright dominated the game for decades and it was commonly played ever since the inception of the union. I think chess does possess the potential to develop and train the strategic thinking skills of players, if they abstract from the game and attempt to apply it to the real world. But it's also a fun game. Because of that I made a /leftypol/ club on chess.com, which is a great website with a nice UI and plenty of resources to learn and improve at chess. I've been using it for months now and got far better at chess and I even do the puzzles on it for fun every day. The way the website is designed makes learning chess and improving really, really easy. Making an account is free and would be quick. I know this sounded like an ad, lol. So, I'm inviting you comrades to start learning chess or improve whatever skill level you are at and join the /leftypol/ chess club. We could play against each other. Perhaps even organize tournaments. I think it would be really cool if we could get something like this going and make it the community wide hobby. If only 3 people join that would be good enough honestly. Link https://www.chess.com/club/leftypol

>>3567 >>3574 Honestly it sounds like a correlation = causation fallacy. Smarter people perform better in aspects of strategy, so it makes sense that a genius on the battlefield would have problem solving skills that transfer over into other aspects of life. I bet great war generals would have been better at, say, magic the gathering than average joe.
>>3574 I think that's just some cool Chinese aesthetic - Go has also been used by the Chinese to describe their Maritime policies in SEA. I wouldn't look too much into it.

Why are Gofags so incredibly insecure about Chess?

>>6498 >what is this game? SYNTHETIK. It's an top-down tactical shooter with randomly generated levels, in-depth gunplay and a perk system.

Caliber, a recent Russian one where you play as Spetsnaz soldiers.

>>6505 >game from the creators of world of tanks
>>6258 Deep Rock Galactic kind of fits. No story to speak of per se, Grapics are low poly but well made, and isn't "realistic" drab grays. Definitely has controller support, and is very replayable since the levels are randomly generated. Only way it differs from your list of requested features is that it is also multiplayer. However you can defiitely play it singleplayer and you get a (literal) bot that will help you out if you only do solo mode, and there isn't really any content locked out if you are playing singleplayer.

No spoilers please, or put them in tags, cause it only just came out.

>>5168 this man speaks truth
>>5143 It's basically this. I still enjoyed the game, but I was underwhelmed given the people that worked on it.
>>5347 I'm the guy who made that post and to be fair according to the devs the game barely had any budget. It was more of a passion project than anything else.
I've been trying to complete this game since it released and I can rarely bring myself to play it, and when it I do it's rarely for more than a half hour. The humor is just so fucking grating. Nothing is ever taken seriously. Futurama and Rick & Morty are an enjoyable format for <30min segments. Not for hours of open world gameplay wherein every character is the butt of some joke. I really want to enjoy it, I also really want to finish the main story, but I just want the jokes to fucking stop.
>>6499 I think this is a big problem with modern writing, the constant dumb jokes and nothing ever being taken seriously. There's moments for humour and moments for seriousness but these people can never take it seriously. I mean soldiers like to have fun and goof off and shit when they're just waiting around but when they're in actual combat? No, they get serious and cold-blooded and shit.

>>6429 Wait, holy shit, I just realized that the good ending is actually the most based one as well. I always thought that the implication was that after closing the Demichev loop you "go back to normal" with minimal changes, but no, the ending clearly implies that the Soviet Union won the Cold War under Barisov.
>>6433 it's also the biggest kino, it starts off same as the intro except all the words that were in english in the intro are now in russian and even though things sorta look the same they really aren't. and nobody even pretends it's weird, which means only one thing: the soviet union didn't win the cold war, because there was never a cold war. it won by default through world communism, thus achieving as of yet unheard of levels of based
>>6435 Still fucking pissed that the game got treated like shit by activision. A lot of the devblog can still be found on Raven’s old site which details a lot more story elements and concepts that never got into the game itself due to corporate bullshitery. It’s a goddamn shame. Also they also has the coolest minigun ever, which only have a single bullet but rewind time each time it fire to shoot it again and again.

Fall Guys, Among Us, Helltaker Comrade 10/02/2020 (Fri) 02:49:46 No. 4849 [Reply]
Seems like the trends of this year is going by real fucking fast. It hasn't even been a month before fall guys was on the airwaves and now it's Among Us. It seems like the trendy shit to be into today in the vidya game sphere seems to be moving at a faster and faster pace day by day.

among us has more longevity than fall guys. sure its a trend but you can't deny that they absolutely hit on something
Helltaker was never really a big thing, only in like super weeb spaces.
fallguys is literally just counterstrike deathrun cartoony style and among us is like jackbox push the button, no wonder why i feel like everything is recycled

I just played INSIDE and I want more games like it. Not gameplay but subject matter, themes, mood, etc. What are the best games involving secret bases, shady experiments, working in the shadows, etc?
First for Deus Ex, obviously.
Metal Gear!
Perfect Dark
XCOM kinda?
