Is anyone here interested in any of the competitive aspects of smash or is it all just fun and games?
>>6794 For funsies, plus patting myself on the back for spotting references and remembering where a song is from.
I haven't played for hundreds of hours (yet), but I just got murdered, saw my opponent grabbing the Smash Ball and a Blue Shell while I respawned, and I got murdered right again, so here are my unsolicited opinions about improving Ultimate: 1. There should be more mobility when you respawn, like flying around in a UFO for a bit and then jumping out of it or something like that. 2. Item spawning should be balanced around character speed and position. For the basic idea, picture a flat stage with two characters standing there. A single item can spawn in the middle between the characters, meaning when both characters start running towards it simultaneously, the faster one will grab it. A more fair reference point for spawning is wherever both characters would meet when they started running towards each other simultaneously. Of course, items only ever spawning exactly at that reference point would be pretty dull. Instead, this could be used together with some randomization and a tracker checking whether there is a strong trend of being particularly fair or unfair towards a player in how the items have spawned and this potentially triggering a different spawn point to make up for that. You also need to take verticality into account, but that's the idea basically. (Perhaps something like that is already in the game; if so it's too subtle for me to notice.) 3. The Final Smash Meter as an alternative to the Smash Ball seems like a really half-baked idea. I think it should take longer to get the F Smash from this (especially with characters that have a very strong F Smash) and when the bar is full, I think it would be more interesting if the character pulsated in and out of the state where you can do the F Smash, like 1 second in, 2 seconds out, 1 second in or something like that. 4. Attacks by slow characters should have more hitstun. 5. There should be an automatic slow-mo replay of the kills after a fight because I often have no idea what just happened. I feel like I'm Joe Biden driving a car. Where am I? Who just got killed and how? When somebody got killed by stage hazard or an item, a little line of text explaining what it was would be helpful. Oh my God, I really sound like I'm getting senile :(
6. Items are really overpowered. They should modify your character's abilities, but it feels rather like your character vanishes for a while behind the awesome power of the item. EITHER Items should get a big nerf across the board, from how long gust of wind, the hammer, the invincibility star etc. are active to how often you can swing the big baseball bats and swords OR a kill with an item should count for half as much as a non-item kill. Or maybe both.

Does anyone know the "language" of flowers and flower arrangements? I don't remember much about it, but it sounds intriguing. Also if I remember correctly certain flowers are used for different kinds of medical toxins/poisons used by people in the past (such as Belladona). Pic related
>>7382 Depending on where you are you may have a government department that catalogs that information.

Godard Anonymous Comrade 03/18/2020 (Wed) 22:13:07 No. 7100 [Reply]
Do you like Godard movies? Probably most famous leftist director. Do you think he doing disservice to socialist ideas by obscuring them? I love his 60s movies: Pierrot le fou, Weekend, but i must admit i dont understand his latest movies, maybe because i dont understand historical context. I watched Film Socialisme today but i dont know what to think about that, can anyone explain what does he want to achieve?
Can't really help you with his later stuff, but I've enjoyed all of his early New Wave works from the 60s as well. Contempt, My Life to Live, and Alphaville are personal favorites.

I'm not a film enthusiast (far from it) but I watched La Chinoise on a weed edible. It was great.

This is of course correct.

On an unrelated not, it's pretty impressive that they don't paywall any of their content. It's only their hack fraud no budget movies you have to pay for.

He strikes me as a "South Park Conservative." You know, someone who doesn't take politics seriously and who doesn't think too deeply about their assumptions, so progressive kind of shit seems silly in general and the current crop of wokies look like they're from another dimension. They'd rather laugh at the weird shit and half-ironically lament how crazy the world has become instead of questioning why it is the way that it is.

>>2574
I think that without Mike the show might have had a more woke angle (given shit I've heard Jay and Jack say). I'm glad that among all the movies and TV discourse there are people who don't lend the woke marketing shit credence and even mock it sometimes. I think the discourse may be starting to turn on this thanks in part to the 2016 US elections using idpol and the 2020 election flaming out hardcore on that front already. From a strategic ideological perspective, having people just be largely neutral is good because it helps weaken the perceived hegemony of liberal ideology. Also, Mike was the one who started the whole thing and still does a lot of the work, so without him there probably wouldn't be a show at all.

>>6959 1. Male movie reviewers literally review movies as bad because female actors don't show enough tits. The male gaze objectifying people to consume them is absolutely an injustice, any Marxis should oppose the commodification of women. Of course brosocialists hate "woke identity politics" so they'll never talk about how Hollywood contributes to the ongoing rape of women in porn lol 2. How many white settler colonialist people will point out the obviously CIA funded movies, or the inherent fascism of heroic myths for Iron Man/Black Panther/etc This is a redpill for morons who don't understand capitalist systems.

free retro homebrew gaming Anonymous Comrade 01/20/2020 (Mon) 17:19:29 No. 5479 [Reply]
Do you have an emulator for NES, anon? Mine Shaft: A very simple game, just push left or right as you descend. What's your score? https://www.romhacking.net/homebrew/34/ Nova the Squirrel: Don't be put off by the picture of the lame title screen. This is a full-blown side-scrolling platform adventure that would haven been worthy of official publishing back in the day. https://www.romhacking.net/homebrew/114/ Star Evil: I don't even. https://www.romhacking.net/homebrew/101/

Get It! is a very old-school game (the level = the screen). Catch items, avoid the baddies. http://www.gravelstudios.com/getit/ What I found very unusual about is that the speed of the player is the same as the speed of the items and enemies bouncing around. So my initial reaction was that it's "objectively" a design mistake, but a few minutes later I got into the flow of things. You just have to anticipate a bit how the things are bouncing. Also has a two-player mode! Remember those dubious cartridges promising to contain a truckload of games? The promised number of games turned out to be a very postmodern way of counting, with different modes or levels of the same game being presented as two or three different games. Graphic assets and sound was also shared between the titles. In this wonderful tradition is 31 in 1 Real Game! by, once again, the Mojon Twins, featuring utterly pointless low-res nudity (I'm not complaining) and parodies. Download is right at the top of this list: http://www.nesworld.com/article.php?system=nes&data=neshomebrew I found Rendezvous and Zombie Calavera Prologue the most interesting. One little thing that irks me about many homebrew titles is how moving diagonally works. They often just add together the movement of each axis, so you move faster diagonally. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works in real life… I also believe that the programmers of the old games back in the day usually took care to avoid that counter-intuitive issue. For example, your spaceship in R-Type does not move faster diagonally and the player can make more precise movements by hugging the left edge of the screen and pressing diagonally.
>>6167 >It's just larping We're talking about video games here, so I don't see why that's a problem, but I've got other points to make. Another thing I've noticed is that higher resolution makes the game a lot laggier. playing the game with the original resolution completely gets rid of the lag (but then the screen is tiny). it's not like the game looks any better, we still use the exact same sprite the only difference the higher resolution make is showing more of the map than you should actually be able to see, at time it even results in you being able to see a black void on the screen which you wouldn't be able to see in the original game.
http://www.nesworld.com/article.php?system=nes&data=neshomebrew I had a look at some other titles on there. What Remains is a short 2019 "adventure" (or rather walking sim) set in 1986 with a plot like Captain Planet on cocaine. They did not try for a very authentic 1986 feel (for example, I don't think "paywalled" was a term in use back then). Got a few sensible chuckles out of me and the same number of eyeroll moments. This is really an actual piece of software that one could unironically label Cultural Marxism.
>>6167 You are thinking about polygonal games. Original Fallout doesn't use polygons and isn't a first-person shooter. (And even with polygons it isn't always sensible to increase the framerate, since the shoddy programming practice of tying mechanics/physics to framerate which often happens with console games when there is no thinking ahead about potentially porting that to other platforms.) Anyway, here's a new NES game: In Böbl, you play fighting er trying to survive despite the attacks existence of your enemies, which are all very hard edge, know what I'm saying. While playing, I often said out loud when dying: Ow, the edge! http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=19718

Play banjo and sing in the scots tradition. Wys?
I have been told I am the incarnation of Less Claypool on the bass.
>>6529 i really want to learn the accordion but have honestly no idea how to start doing that, especially considering how expensive instruments are
>>6529 I used to play alto saxophone when I was still in grade school. Because I really liked the idea of playing Jazz music because it was so cool. Though my original pick was going to be a flute because it would have been super cool to learn that from watching cartoons and such. But glad I didn't as flute is very hard to play with huge hands like mine.

Yes, an old "Melody King" 3/4 (parlor) guitar I got cheap on ebay. I had a Stefan Grossman instructional DVD on fingerpicked blues guitar, in which he said for this genre either get an old battered one from a junk shop, or a cheap new one. Pic related shows the guitar complete " bits of paper modification" to lift the strings high enough to stop fret buzzing. When I've got some money together I'll get a proper guitar "set up" done at a guitar shop. But in the meantime it does the job. I used it to record this : https://youtu.be/9sd0Hd3PygE
