Has anyone had any experience with publishing? I'm working on a novel but my assumption is that even when I finish it no one will want to print it. Is it necessary to build a name for yourself through short story publication? I personally hate writing short stories and hate submitting them to journals even more.

In my view, ideas for stories, film, whatnot all come from two places. a) Influence from real life experiences, events, conditions, and whatnot. b) Inspirations from various other stories/mediums you would like to take up. I also like what >>20186 has to say.
