A short greentext history of /leftypol/
>2014..15? Leftypol created.
I came somewhere in 2015, so the creation of leftypol is somewhat murky to me, but if the tales of old are too be believed, there was some kind of exodus of /lit/ posters that made up part of the userbase of the original board, pretty much all were left wing chan users, sick of the /polyp/ hegemony. At the very start, I think it was mostly very hardcore tankmasters, with a few highly radicalised anarchists, not the idpol types, at this point the anarchists were kinda gnarled old crustpunk types, I remember distinctly a conversation about some anarchists who used to break into churches in their youth. At this point, a lot of the userbase was still like this, it wasn't a load of students, it was a load of misfits and strange people. To its credit I do say.
When I found the place, the board was split roughly in two by anarchists and MLs. As such, two major memes were on trend, Hoxha and Stirner. The board didn't have very many users, there was around 3-400 unique IPs, but the users that did use the board were highly dedicated, it was still fairly fast and comfy even with this small amount of users. At this point also a very wide and diverse variety of topics was discussed, all different kinds of leftist ideology, there was sort of a culture where we would dig into obscure ideology in particular and meme about it. There was a wide range of ideology as I said, at this point we had a strong mutualist contingent, a bunch of insurrectionary anarchists, syndicalists and anarcho communists. Also transhumanists and primitivists and so on. They were given the time of day more back then as well. This was complimented by a jucheist, hoxhaists, etc.
At this time also, we were still at the stage where a good proportion of the invading /polyps/ were ancaps. We spent in equal measure long threads debunking both the free market and race realism. Fascists who posted in good faith were allowed to stay. These were some of the best threads honestly, many memes were created as we bullied fascists as a group. I'm sure there is a lot more to be said but this is my general memories of that time on the board.
Personally, I must have been one of the first way of immigrants to the board, which I discovered after 8chan was involved in a mass shooting or something, and somebody on 4chan /pol/ told me to go to /leftypol/.
Other notable things: a anarcho nihilist poster tried to get a commune going in detroit, plans were made, but nothing came of it. I have long suspected this poster is Shaytan.
>2016
around about 2016 there were several features of the board, for starters, the election campaign of Trump brought in large amounts of people, a lot of them less radical types, a lot of new people. There was a strong libertarian streak on the board, and because of this, and because of the Syrian conflict, there was a lot of posting about Rojava, and many posters picked up the ideology of Bookchin/Ocalan. For a while, this was a good 30% of the board. Around this time was heaps of bookchin memes, also other memes cropped up, which we made, such as the "coming for that toothbrush whitey" meme which was created in a thread arguing with a libertarian.
By this time it was pretty common for the board to pick up certain books, then several posters would get the book and read it, and that would be kinda what everyone was reading and discussing, bookchins ideas were those. However, as people started to realise some of Bookchins more liberal ideas, posters started looking further back,
At this time anarchist communism became the ascendant ideology, at one point polls showed about 60% of the board was anarchist leaning, with the majority of these ancoms, a bunch of bookchinites also.
Around this time the size of the board was increasing very rapidly, with a lot of happenings going on and a lot of content being posted. There were many fbi.govs sprouting up, we had lots of dubtrack sessions. At this point were converting a lot of fascists, every couple of days we'd have a thread of somebody like "i can't believe I used to be a fascist"
Also at this time there were many memorable namefags. Satan Nazi for one, was a crazy women, who was very attractive, who was a sex worker. There was also Hoochie Minh, a Vietnamese mental health nurse, there was Rebel Absurdity, Milo. There was one skitzo poster who would intermittently write walls of skitzo babble that lasted posts and posts. Many other name fags and odd people on the board.
>2017
in early 2017 this peak board status continued, although now alongside the anarchists a new meme breed had emerged, the leftcoms, many anarchists began to read Marx, and many of these became leftcoms, leftcommery became the new fashion trend and soon the anarchists and tankies would be equal in thirds to this new position. Around this time also, a group of /leftypol/ anarchists had got together to form an "action front" and did graffiti and other small actions, co-ordinated from a fbi.gov. At one point it had a decent amount of members posting graffitti from several countries, the UK, America, Australia, Germany, Holland and Italy.
However, this was happening simultaneously with increasingly erratic behaviour by the oldBO.
It must be remembered that before all this old BO said on several occasions he hadn't read any theory or books at all and got all his takes from twitter. With all the new posters coming in, the BO saw the board culture as under threat from noobs. While it is true, there was more libshit posting, we were converting many many from the libs and the right. BO could not handle seeing takes he didn't like however, and began banning people who were critical in any way of Iran/Venezuela etc. On top of this, he had decided that Rojava was an imperialist project, and began harassing and attacking the pro Rojava posters, which was the time a majority of the board. Through use of bans, wordfilters, and thread derailment and deletion, he suppressed talk of Rojava.
This resulted in a schism, the board split into /leftypol/ and /leftpol/ the moderation on /leftypol/ became increasingly heavy handed, funposting, which had been the lifeblood of the board, was more or less banned. A huge majority of the best posters left, things became very stale and stagnant. /leftpol/ had the opposite problem of zero moderation at all.
>2018
2018 was a dark year for leftypol, the board became slow, the discourse increasingly toxic, with a hard core of the most deeply autistic posters in a dominant mode and old BO still having temper tantrums and killing of the board in many other ways. The banning of fbi.gov for example, made it difficult to have more off board adjacent communities. This was part of wider policy of everything having to be under mod control, which destroyed so much discussion.
The one light is that around this time the board became cockshott pilled, cockshott was certainly the meme ideology of 2018.
I posted very little around this time except to complain about the moderation. there was very little discussion to be had.
>2019
the board continued circling the toilet bowel, until by the grace of god 8chan was nuked, and all the posters migrated to bunkerchan.
