I’m playing far cry 2 with redux+ realism and I’m amazed by the level of immersion and sense of control I have over my time with it. The mod fully disables all in-game features to assist the players availing to navigate the map meaning your paper map and some screens showcasing your location is all you get to figure out where to go. I’ve navigated my way through several missions off my own accord, having to learn to be patient with outposts, run the fuck away from anything that looks like trouble and fight with barely any ammo is such a unique experience you can’t create in so many games. The world itself even without mods is beautiful and every hour I spend playing makes me feel like I’m genuinely apart of it, something you wouldn’t typically get from a non roleplaying game.

 No.30954

You made me want to replay it. When you say redux + realism, you mean Redux mod and Dylans realism mod together or what?

 No.30955

Yup that’s the mod. Helps combat the bullet sponge issue and makes navigation feel way more immersive.

Install the game, download the file on nexus or moddb directly and extract it into your game folder(the one with the exe).

Finally got around to playing it. Installed ENB to make lighting prettier, by default everything is too dark, even though it is noon.
Which merc did you pick as your character OP? My first time playing was the Algerian guy. Now I am restarting the game with anonymous mercenary option until it generates someone nicely dressed.

He was my BFF. Didnt survive though, poor guy. Died in an ambush near the end of the game.

Here are drips I kind of liked. At the end didnt pick any of them, despite spending hours restarting the game. One of my first attempts I got this nice blue shirt that I am trying to get again. Managed to get it once, but on a black guy. And ideally with pants, I dont like shorts.

Ok so I’ve died to the same mission a few times now on infamous and man do I have an experience. I left my safe house for a buddy mission and had to sprint towards a health outpost, I cleared it with a single nade and shot a dude with an ak before making a sprint for it by stealing one of their jeeps before heading to a hotel near a river. Had to watch out for dudes patrolling on the roadways a few times and jump out to kill two more guys near an outpost right next to this hotel, craw my way near the entrance because it was guarded by a sniper and then shuffle between three positions for idk how many mercs all before threatening the leader of the place with a machete and running again because I alerted even more guys. I was trying to leave but noticed an explosion I couldn’t see going off before I realized I was being chased by one of the patrolmen I was referring to in the jungle. Ran like hell and the fuckers still fucking found me and caught up to me soon so I had to hide behind a tree so the first guys turret would ice me cold instantly, killed him and ducked behind their truck. Turns out that was a shitty idea because that same truck rammed into the tree I was hiding in and I ended up shooting their truck. I panicked to shit got shot and nearly blew myself up right after completeing the first half of my buddy mission just because the AI of this game is persistent and noticeably harder to deal with than other far cry games.
Fucking hell

Nope, rerolling new character. Honestly I expected the tutorial to be the hardest part, before you get access to arms dealer, buddy and good gear.
Found out there are numerous characters for whom you can do tutorial job. Before I always got this young-ish american (I guess based on accent) guy, but this time I mission giver was old slavic man. Both working fo UFLL. I suspect it depends on which way you leave the city during starting shootout. Wonder if I go completely opposite way, I get rescued by APR.

No. In a tutorial mission where you rescue the first buddy.

 No.31082

Fun fact - if you fuck around in a starting hotel too long you still pass out and the same sound effects of car rescuing you are played, despite being still in your room.
And when you try to leave tutorial area you pass out from malaria and respawn with a guy who rescued you first time, and he will have a comment about it (the slavic guy remarked "How did you managed to survive outside of your mothers womb all this time?"

All right, made it though tutorial. Turns out going guns blazing actually is better tactic than sneaking around.
Got nice clothes generated. It looks appropriate for what a merc on assasionation mission would wear. On one hand, you just arrived from airport, you wouldnt be walking around in combat gear, and want to look at least somehow inconspicuous, on the other, it blends with environment like a camo. Having to constantly restart the game until RNG gives you outfit you want is annoying, but it creates certain level of investment in a character, fitting for permadeath playthrough.

Working for UFLL again. My best buddy is the old Yugoslavian guy, and second buddy the Cuban woman.

Beat the game on infamous first before doing a permadeath run dude. The AI isn’t a joke unlike in other far cry games. Reminder, you don’t have indicators to see enemies through walls, you can only carry 3 firearms and a machete, your ammo is severely limited compared to every other entry and most AI can find your location immediately just off the sound of an unsilenced gun.

If you’re playing redux+ realism use a sniper and run past as many outposts as you can. It makes the game so much easier to get through

>>31099
I bought it immediately after tutorial. Part of a problem, outside of lack of caution on my part, the game reloaded the are while I was in it (as in the entire world dissapeared, I floated in blue void for couple seconds, and then reappeared with all enemies respawned), and wasted buddy rescue on getting shot by checkpoint guards, because while getting away from them I tried to climb over a mountain and hit an invisible wall.

Anyway new game. This time went other way during city shootout and got rescued by APR merc. Polite american guy, I like him, UFLL were kind of assholes. On the other hand, local APR leader does not look like a pleasant man. Reminds me of a dictators son from Lord of War, who eats hearts of killed enemies.
My best buddy is an Indian man, and second best one the american.
First mission I got is to assasinate a police chief. As I am writing this post the game is alt-tabed, I am crouching behind a tree, pinned by a sniper whose location I dont know.

Final attempt. This time with more sporty outfit. My best buddy is milf tomboy GF, and I decided to simp, meaning I am following her shitty suggestion to lure spec-ops team I am supposed to get rid off into a Shanty Town, rather than picking them off out in the open. Working for UFLL again, which I prefer. Their leader comes off like a little socially awkward but a decent guy (as far as war criminals go). Has picture of what I assume is his family on a table.

I like this game. my only issues are that traversal can get annoying with all the extremely aggro enemies, and that everyone talks like ben shapiro on meth, it's so weird. why do characters talk like this?

 No.31126

*Sign*, I tried again. This time actually managed to finish first story and one weapons dealer mission, despite almost dying when an outpost respawned while I was in it, and game crashing halfway through first mission, forcing me to reload from its beginning. After finishing weapons dealers mission I was traveling across desert, run into lone sniper, fine, whatever, shot him. That alerted two car patrols nearby, I just suddenly heard engine running, didnt even know from where, killed one guy who drove a civilian car, but with no cover around got shredded by jeep machinegun. One of my self-imposed rules is that I reset buddy rescue only once per story mission, so I died.

Fucking loved this game back in the day. I remember getting it for christmas 2007, along with Fallout 3, but didn't get around to playing either of them until at least a year later.

My fav thing to do was to set up little ambushes for the convoys, either setting the grass on fire and waiting for them to run into it or firing an RPG into the lead vehicle then finishing off the rest. Good times…

>kill him with machete, suddenly another guy pops out, he cant shoot me because I am now behind the crate but he hits a propane canister on top of said crate

It took my only couple restarts to get a good outfit, so we are off to good start. During the initial city firefight I one of the guys that fight right under your window spawned with a flamethrower, and proceeded to se the street on fire, which spread all the way to hotel room. I wanted to make my way to the other site of the city, so that I start with APR mission, rather than working for UFLL again, but unfortunately got shot after jumping out of hotel window onto the street. So the lieutenant I got during tutorial is the Slavic (?) man.

Finished tutorial.
Got flamethrower as a starting special weapon, which for roleplay reasons I am not going to use, even though its actually pretty decent close combat weapon.
First I was sent to clear up a savehouse, two guys guarding it. Actually managed to get a jump on me rather than other way around, but I wounded the guy, and shot the other. Wounded guy crawled away into cover, I flanked him and got cool machete kill.
Next scout and clean the cock fighting ring. 5 guys there, I am at elevated covered position, easy. Chicken liberated. Saved my first buddy - Yosif the Yugoslavian. Second buddy I met at the bar was the Cuban woman again. Wonder why I keep getting the same couple buddies every run. Maybe some of them are not accessible at the begining of the game, or chance of which you get depends on lieutenant you do tutorial for? As a mandatory weapon purchase I picked flare gun. Setting grass on fire with it can be used to flush enemies out of cover.

First mission for UFLL: Destroy equipment of special forces team send to take out some APR guy, which UFLL leader doesnt want to happen, because it would make him look bad. They are stationed in a desert oasis at the edge of a map. Got a call from Yosif to come visit him at a savehouse.

Ran straight into an outpost on a quad bike, immediately got shot and had to be rescued by a buddy. Now of course I could have avoided it, but the thing is, from roleplay perspective, this is the first hostile checkpoint my character encountered, so he wouldnt know. Anyway, that means if I die again before finishing the mission and resetting buddy rescue, Im dead for real.

The rest of the way I went on foot, avoiding roads, and going around outposts rather than destroying them. Did encounter 3 mercs in the jungle, I decided taking them out is safer option than running away.

At the savehouse Yosif told me the team is here to extradite him for stealing medical supplies. He advises, instead of facing them at the oasis, to find their informant at nearby mansion and make him give them fake coordinates into a Shanty Town, where they can be taken out with ease. I decided to do it his way.

At the savehouse he also left for me a rusty grenade launcher. Great range, accuracy, scope. Low ammo, and takes primary weapons slot which was occupied by assault rifle, so I blew all my diamonds in a nearest gun shop to buy ammo upgrade and replace the flame thrower with light machine gun, to still have some good short to mid range option.

There was a small outpost on the way to villa, two guys, took them out with machine gun. Once there, found a nice elevated ridge on a cliff, camped there taking out most of villas security. Got inside, convinced the Belgian to give spec ops team the false coordinates.

Even though I knew where exactly the supplies I am to destroy were, I roleplayed and decided to systemically search entire area until I stumble upon them. That require cleaning it out, which I again did from a nice elevated position. To my surprise caused a massive explosion after I shot a grenade launcher, which set grass on fire, which spread to explosives stockpile. Thought someone was shooting at me with bazooka or something.

Anyway, eventually found and destroyed the supplies, got call from Yosif that he needs help because APR found out about his medicine supplies theft. Unfortunately he did not survive the shootout. Idk if it was because he got shot by enemies, or I miscalculated the grenade launcher explosive radius, but I found his corpse. Feel bad about that one. I took his Desert Eagle.

Went to do gun shop mission. Blow up a convoy which makes rounds right next to gun shop, so I just laid ambush on a road, and blew them up with grenade launcher. That was the last use of that weapon, because after firing two shells, it literally fell apart, which sucks, I invested 20 diamonds into upgrading its ammo capacity. Had to go back to weapons shop and buy sniper rifle as a replacement.

Next I did assassination mission given by the telecom tower. Target was back in Shanty Town, only one checkpoint away. Crawled onto the nearby mountain, he wore a three piece suit which made him stand out. I shot him in the head with my new rifle.

Next I made my way to Mikes bar. There the guy I previously though was Indian, actually Mauritian, requested I help him get some experimental ammunition from a police station. Now this was a long journey through number of checkpoints. One had basically cleaned itself due to APR and UFLL fighting, I just finished last two survivors. Eventually arrived at police station. Shot bunch of guys there with a sniper rifle, got shot by a sniper, killed him with my last sniper bullet I had left, took the ammo case from the garage. Decided that rather than going back the same way I came, it would be safer to find a vehicle and make my way through the desert to the bus stop.

Once I took a bus to Pala, I got a call from anonymous source informing me that the previous guy send to kill Jackal went AWOL. But it was already night, so I made my way to the savehouse, there I found the Cuban woman sitting on my bed.

Next day took a bus into a desert, in hostile outpost found a letter pointing me to location of a tape my predecessor left. It was in the airport. There was a tall rock near it, fantastic sniping location, cleared the place with no problem.

Flare gun has proven invaluable weapon. Enemies outside of your light of sight? Just shoot it over the cover, start a bush fire, smoke them out. Extra fun when there are explosives or ammo stockpiles nearby.

Next mission I decided for a change do for APR. They want me to assassinate police chief. He is in a convoy, easy target. But the cuban woman, Flora, called me, because she wanted me to infiltrate the fishing village, there acquire a ledger showing chiefs brides from his brother, and leak them to deputy, in order to make him to transport their weapons to UFLL ( or APR, I dont remember), so that she can assault the transport. First I spend way too much time trying different routes into the fishing village, was considering just ignoring it and going for the convoy itself, but eventually found a good angle. After that I took a scenic route through a desert to a police station to avoid patrols and outposts. I was trying to find some good spot from which I could potentially snipe the chief without actually having to engage entire station security, but got spotted by sniper, took him out, then almost got exploded by an asshole with RPG. Cleared the station, stabbed the chief with machete. Got call from Flora that I am to meet her at transport ambush spot. Turned out it was an awful spot for ambush, barely made it out alive, got into critical condition like 3 times and used up all my medkits. Flora was wounded, but I had no medkids so I ran to a nearest outpost to get them. By the time I returned it was too late. Fuck. Two story missions in and two buddies down.

Sorry anon, at least you got this far.

I personally feel that playing on permadeath super realism mode in games is kind of silly because in basically every game you're thrown against a totally unrealistic amount of enemies with no backup. The premise isn't realistic to start with. I think it would be cool if there were more realistic games but not really sure how to make that work and still be fun. But, obviously everyone can play how they want.

It would be neat if there was some kind of permadeath multiplayer FPS with persistent history. Everyone would start on server 1 when they buy the game and if you die you go down to server 2 (and so on, eventually there might be too many people dying and spread out through too many servers so the higher number ones could get merged together I guess), everyone gets to play but being on a low number server would be extra prestigious and it would be neat to see everyone playing super defensively like in real wars because they don't want to die. And it would say in your profile like 'died to a mortar in server 1, was killed by a sniper in server 2, killed 2 coalition soldiers with a submachine gun, was killed in a firefight in server 3, led the assault on liberty base and killed 4 coalition soldiers' (and so on)

FC3 fizzles out the moment you get past the meme insanity man arc because nearly every other character is either boring or plays negligible role in the story. Also yeah, the protag going from a dumb millennial tourist to an unstoppable killing machine with little training is just funny and makes it hard to take the story seriously in any way.

>FC3 fizzles out the moment you get past the meme insanity man arc
Thats where I dropped it during my first playthrough.

What bothered me about protagonist is that distinction between playing a character vs playing the legs of a character. It takes you out of the game when the character you are playing forces you to do things you dont want to do. Right at the beginning your mission is to remove pirate scramblers from radio tower. Good, that makes perfect sense considering that your main objective is to fuck up the pirates and liberate your friends. And then the second mission is "get me boar skins". Like what the fuck is this, World of Warcraft?

Concerning his story arc, its fine in concept, but the execution fail. It reminded me of playing the Tomb Raider remake, it has similar premise of a trust fund kid being stranded on island and transforming into action hero over the course of the story. Except there is no transformation, the game controls and playing exactly the same at the beginning as it does at the end. You already start as an expert level marksman who can literally wrestle tigers. The game would profit greatly from having more meaningful RPG mechanics, for example initially having overly long and clumsy reload animation and bad shaky aim, improving as you progress, instead of from the get-go being able to walk into the room and headshot 3 people before they have chance to react, like you are agent 47.

I have been thinking about that, but I do not think its unfair. Even on highest difficulty, you have roughly twice as much health as your enemies, you can heal yourself, you get buddy rescue (assuming you dont get them killed), and most importantly, in majority of situations, you are the one who is attacking. That allows you to prepare, choose how you wish to engage, and you get the first shot. With exception of rare sniper/RPG enemies, AI has no ability to deal with you sniping them from up high. That is why car patrols are so dangerous and annoying, they just appear out of nowhere and force you on the defensive.

And its already burning through my fucking goodwill by killing me off during the tutorial. Right at the beginning, if you dont get into the car quick enough, you "get shot", even if there is nobody who could shoot you, because game doesnt want you to break its scripted sequence. And afterwards the game throws you against multiple enemies, armed with nothing but machete, and no organic tutorial into its combat and sneak mechanics, that doesnt seem to be balanced towards higher difficulties.

Reinstalled Far Cry 3, with Immersion mod, which removes annoying HUD elements, minimap, seeing enemies through walls and changes enemy clothes to cammo rather than the original red.
So the rules of playthrough are permadeath, no fast travel, being reasonable with loadout (i.e. not carrying 4 light machine guns cuz that would be unrealistic) and my personal distaste with killing animals, which Ill have to get over because I cant be playing with only 1 weapon slot and 1000 dollar wallet capacity.
Managed to get through starting chase sequence without dying this time, did the tutorial in which I liberated the first outpost. Acquired AK as a weapon. Found a spooky cave with some loot, saw lone enemy soldier being killed by komodo dragon. Got into incredibly obnoxious firefight probably somewhere near the patrol respawn point, because they just kept coming and once I ran out of ammo I had to make a run for it and get away from the location.

Not a fan how purposefully dumbed down the enemy AI is compared to FC2. They have no peripheral vision, will rush you instead of staying in cover, bad aim, slow reaction time. Clearing small checkpoints in FC2 was an actual challenge, and even despite the fact they quickly respawned, it felt like more of an achivement than in FC3, where it just feels like going through a checklist. My BFF Josif called me because he wanted to meet at the safehouse, took a bus to the desert and made my way to the meeting. On my way there I cleaned a small outpost where I found some info relating to previous guy send to kill Jackal (pre-order or XBox exclusive or something like that bonus mission). Also found golden AK, but didnt even had a chance to try it out, as I swapped it with grenade launcher from Josifs safehouse. Cleaned the nearby hacienda on his orders, convince guy there to give spec-ops team coordinates to nearby shanty town, clean up shanty town, run to Josif rescue, accidently blow him with with grenade launcher (yet again). Took a bus back to Pala.

And thats enough Far Cry 2 for me for foreseeable future, as I am out of gaming time-budget.

Woke up, went to Mike's bar, picked up a quest to retrieve some sort of box from the woman there. Hopefully that will make her my new buddy, as there is an open position since Josif died. Took a bus to north-western corner of the map. Picked a buggy and less than 30 seconds later managed to get in stuck on a rock, so had to continue on foot.

First encounter on my journey to the derelict train-yard containing the box was a safehouse, surprisingly already unlocked, didnt have to fight anyone there. Next detected a diamond box next to enemy road checkpoint, sneaked in, took diamonds, sneaked out, no fighting required.
Short way from there met a lone soldier on a lookout, stabbed him in the back with machete, attracted a car with a single enemy inside, dispatched him no problem. Then I got shot point-blank with double-barreled shotgun by the first guy, who turns out survived the machete strike and was bleeding out on the ground. Gunshots must have alerted sniper somewhere, couldnt locate him so I just legged it. Found another guy on a lookout, on the elevated position near road checkpoint, wanted to sneak up on him but he noticed me and had to shoot. Ran into hiding, killed his two buddies who were investigating the gunshots, attracted guy with a machinegun from god knows where who got a jump on me and almost killed me. Rest of the journey to train yard was uneventful, barring single patrol car I blew up with grenade launcher before they even noticed me. Right now I am stalking the yard, there are some good camping locations around, but I have no medkits left, so I am gonna just turn around and scavenge some before attempting frontal assault.

Backtracked to a checkpoint whose guards I previously killed, but didnt loot at the time, found a single medkit, and a diamond case. Heard a car outside so I went in and out very carefully. Car patrols in this game a nightmare, every time I hear anything that even remotely sounds like an engine it gives me a heart attack.

Back at the train yard, started my assault with grenade launcher barrage. Thats when I noticed they had a sniper, but neither me nor him managed to hit each other. My grenade launcher broke, so I decided to nope out, go to the nearest gun shop, get myself a sniper rifle and restart attack anew. However the way to the gun shop was around the train yard, one guy was blocking it, had to shoot him, alerted other guys from the compound, firefight ensures, at the end it looked like everyones was dead already (later found only one guy still alive), so I went straight inside to pick the box from one of the carriages.

Afterwards, on my way to that gun shop, found a safehouse inside of which there was an interesting gun - assault rifle with optical sights. Didnt keep it though, the zoom wasnt good enough for sniping, and LMG provides me will all the automatic firepower I need already. Instead bough a good old bolt-action rifle.

Took longer but safer way back to Pala, south all the way to the bus station at the corner of the map. Got opportunity to put the new rifle to use clearing a checkpoint. Saw a car patrol approaching, shot once, missed, alerted it, shot second time, missed, as it was speeding towards me finally on the third attempt took out machine gunner, and as the driver parked the car next to me and got out, the malaria triggered. Had to survive through the pill taking animation while the guy is shooting at me from 10m away, no cover between us. He was an awful shot, barely took any health from me, blow him with a grenade, but Jesus, this game. Anyway, two more guys showed up from somewhere, one of them carrying an automatic shotgun, incredibly powerful weapon even at mid range, almost killing me this time. Took a jeep from the checkpoint, drove south through the desert, avoiding roads.

One my way stopped to clean up three safehouses, collected couple diamond cases, finally reached the bus station and delivered the box to the woman at Mike's. Next Ill plan to do gun shop mission.

Gun shop mission send me back to the north-western corner of the map, where I was to destroy a convoy carrying weapons. Bought an IED to make the job easier, clean the checkpoint through which the convoy drives, and set up an ambush. Detonated the IED too soon, only took out the jeep escort in front the truck, which blocked the truck, gunned down the other jeep behind, and blow the truck with a grenade.

Afterwards proceeded through the top corner of the map east, to the Fort, to get my hands on a tape left by previous guy send to hunt Jackal. Bought a silenced pistol, but an attempt for subtle approach got immediately ruined by two snipers on the Fort towers. After taking them out the rest was quite easy, Fort has only two opposing gates, so there wasnt much risk of getting flanked (although there was smaller outpost near the entrance). After killing everyone with such an ease I got cocky for like 2 seconds and got reduced to 5% health by a single straggler armed with a rusty AK. Eventually found the recording I was looking for, and left the Fort for the nearest safehouse where I spend the night.

One last side mission before returning to faction quests, assassination on behalf of voice on the phone. Target is at the airfield. While driving through the desert I saw lone man walking through it, nobody else and nothing interest around. His back was turned, didnt see me. I sneaked up on him and shot him at the back of the head with a pistol. And then I stopped. Why did I kill this man? Didnt show any hostility, didnt even have opportunity to. Clearly a mercenary, armed and visibly not local, but so am I. Killed him without a though, just because thats what I have been doing the whole time, out of habit really. Afterwards I started noticing these moments. Encountered a firefight between UFLL and APR, someone won, shot at a survivor, missed, he hid behind a tree. Shot a flare next to the tree, grass caught fire, he had no option but to either burn or expose himself to my sniper rifle. He chose fire. Or maybe didnt even had time to. At the airport, shot man, wounding him. Was about to finish him with second shot, but then stopped myself, left him wounded because I wanted to force his buddies to run to his rescue, so I could shoot them. In retrospect completely unnecessary, at that point there was nobody else alive.

Opted for APR mission next, because I wanted to check out what other side has to offer. Mission is to assassinate the police chief. Easy enough, he drives around in a car, can be finished with a single IED, except the woman I met at the bar, now my new best buddy, devised a harebrained scheme to steal truckload of weapons, requiring me to acquire some documents full of dirt on said police chief, and then killing him in his police station. She did give me a rocket launcher, which is cool, but from practical perspective kind of useless.

The fishing village where the documents are really highlights how merciless the AI in this game is. Its crawling with enemy mercs, I shot one, and they are suddenly all gone, crouched behind cover and inside buildings, and they will stay there until I get close enough for them to fill me with lead, forcing me to circle the entire village on boat, trying to flank and pick off enough enemies to be able to make a landing without turning it into opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.

With documents in my hands, I made my way to the police station, encountering skirmishes between boat patrols and river checkpoints. Boats won. At the police station almost got murdered by a guy with an RPG, had to completely retreat and restock ammo and medkits at the gun shop. During my second assault I took the fucker out first, with relative ease dispatched the rest of police chiefs bodyguards and finally him. My new best buddy laid an ambush for weapons shipment, so naturally I had to run to her rescue. She actually survived this time.

Next order of business, assassination mission taking place surprisingly in Pala. Good thing too, because right before accepting it I ran out of meds, not sure what would happen if I got malaria attack without them, but I dont feel like finding out. So I took a bus back to Pala, shot a guy with silence pistol, dont think anyone saw us, but it still triggered everyone around hostile. Took a car and drove outside of ceasefire zone, then immediately returned back like nothing happened. Went to see the priest for more malaria medication, he gave me passports for some civilians wanting to leave country. I was to deliver them to a safehouse, conveniently close to a bus station, almost died there again to a car patrol, got my medicine.

Gun shop mission next. This time I forgot to equip IED, so I had to improvise. At the checkpoint through with weapon convoy I was to destroy passes I parked two jeeps in the middle of the road and rolled a fuel barrel next to them. When the convoy came, shot the barrel, blew them all to hell.

At Mikes Bar I picked a buddy mission from my BFF, to kill two drug dealer pushing product on children. Easy enough, one was just standing in some checkpoint, got a clean shot on him, another at the airfield, less clean, but still easy.

Afterwards I wanted to return to working for UFLL, but I they wont even let me inside their HQ, apparently I locked myself into APR questline by taking their previous job. Sad. When I entered APR headquarters, I overheard their leaders talking about using a "help poor african children suffering dysentery" commercial to collect donations for themselves. Their mission for me is "go destroy natural gas tanks UFLL is using to pay for medicine". This is who I am stuck with. Also met a new mercenary lieutenant working for APR, classy looking British gentleman.

BFF called once again, she wanted to meat near the train yard where gas tanks are located. There she tasked me with removing a UFLL commander at nearby ranch getting entrepreneurial with children, who is in some way connected with the gas tanks, dont remember exactly what she said, but basically killing him would result in entire train full of UFLL soldiers coming after me when I blow up the tank. Assassination itself was simple, not many hiding spots at the ranch from my sniper rifle. Although the commander did take me by surprise by pulling a MAC on me, he was dressed in civilian clothing so I didnt expect him to be armed. After being done with that I assaulted train yard and blew up gas tanks. My BFF intercepted the soldier train that was supposed to come after me, I ran to assist her, didnt even need to this time, by the time I got there there I only had opportunity to shoot one guy, all the other ones were already dead.

Signed up for another gun shop mission, forgot to equip IED yet again, so I just parked jeep on the road and gunned the convoy down with its machine gun, wont do that again though, almost got killed.

Finally picked a mission from Warren Clyde, my I guess second best buddy, surprisingly didnt get downed once during this entire playthrough so I dont even know, wants me to blow up some kind of gas or oil pipe the factions are using for funding the war.

People credit Vaas with starting the trend of charismatic Far Cry villains, but as I replay through it its becoming obvious that Far Cry 2 was the blueprint, with Jackal and his philosophizing about the nature of men. He is more of a protagonist of the story than player character is, certainly the one with most impact on it, player being basically just some asshole filling his pockets with blood diamonds and making no difference whatsoever. I love how both mechanically and thematically the game keep hammering in how much players actions make no difference, such a pleasant contrast to constant backpatting other game in the series (and well, video games in general I suppose) keep lavishing players with.

So made my way to the Fishing village for the buddy mission, the fuel wasnt even in the village itself but on an lake island nearby, easy, next got another predecessor tape from the airport, this was my third time assaulting it, trivial, singed up for assassination mission which took me back to Fishing village, this time actually had to scour through it to find the target, intense firefight ensured. The target almost downed me halfway across village with a submachine gun, idk if his RNG lucked out or special NPCs have improved accuracy.
Also found out enemies can drop golden AKs, probably a quirk of a mod, in base game there should be only 4 of them hidden across the map. Not that they are of any use.

Another APR mission, this time met a Yankee stereotype lieutenant who wants me to blow up UFLL vehicle repair station. My buddy Michele requested that before I get to that, I am to acquire map of secret fuel truck routes, which will allow her to destroy them so they can be used for war anymore.
