 No.34397

Hilariously ironic that big boy games with big boy money chasing after vapid realism and """prestige""" storytelling stumble so hard at being artistic, while a freaky game that would probably cause a second ESRB debacle if found is much better at being artistic.

What games are you even talking about pal? It all seems like hyperrealistic slop to me.

>blah blah blah
Please give proper examples.

I have only heard good things about the new alan wake and plan on playing it the moment I get the chance. I have played control and it’s great, so I have high expectations for alan wake.

Last of Us is an perfect example of the struggles of modern game dev, there is a desire to be respected and listened to. Video games is a art medium, but there doesn’t seem to be any high budget games that have managed to truly take advantage of the medium and it’s ablitiy to interact with the player. TLOU2 tries to talk about revenge and violence and in pursuit to create a game and story with specific ideas in mind fails to take advantage of the mediums intractability, it forces you to behave in a certein way and then criticises the mc for behaving like that and this also criticises you since you control the mc. The hate is un deserved, but the game isn’t ingenious or that deep.

Everyone makes fun of Kojima but he absolutely takes advantage of the medium and is a great cutscene director.

>and is a great cutscene director

except that his cutscenes are mostly three times as long as they should be

I will gladly sit through all of those MGS4 cutscenes because I get to play MGS4 between them. I expect from KojiPro full throated, excellent gameplay with those movies.

I didn't even finish MGS4.
