To add the things I like to look at most are:
-Graffiti *(tags included)
-Old Ads (Frutiger Aero style and bootleg graphics)
-People and what they were doing, wearing etc.
-No longer existing buildings
-Rare night-time captures
-Animals
And generally details people would usually miss when strolling around in real time.

I see it a sort of extension of the concept of Dérive by the Situationists without the aspect of actually having to go out and get lost yourself.

For example these pavilioni (budki) which mostly no longer exist in Bulgaria, that used to sell newspapers, playboy magazines, gardening magazines, storybooks, coloring books and all sorts of papers.
*should clarify that the words generally refer to small shop stands, as seen in pic 3 where they sell cigarettes, drinks and food.

I did that once, with Baidu maps, and went to some "rural" parts of China. Pretty cool stuff.

Another thing that pairs really well with street view exploration is listening to the radio stations from the country on radio garden

No thanks, I will listen to radio Pyongyang FM 105.2 while exploring urban China.

I like doing this too. The street view for my street is from years ago and I can see trees that were cut down long ago and my neighbor's house before they died and it was renovated by the new owners.

Also fun to just plop it down in a random spot and explore somewhere I'll never go.

I love exploring google earth but rarely venture down to the street view and only look into the past when I want to see how an area I am personally familiar with evolved.
