You're right, but it's not possible. There are no organisations of my tendency in my country. I am not really up to the task, but unfortunately I am the only person writing theory and trying to organise here, so I have the responsibility until someone comes out of the woodwork with better theoretical knowledge or organisational skills than me.

In terms of talking to people, if you get into a conversation, is to flip things around and ask your subject open-ended questions: who/what/when/where/why. Let them do the talking. If they don't want to talk to you, they'll just ignore you. Even if they violently disagree, don't argue, let them explain to you why they hate you. In my little experience canvassing on the street, that's pretty rare because 99% of people just pretend you don't exist, but it does happen, but that can become an interesting question as to why, or what in their own life or experience has led them to get angry at you.

I had one guy get really angry once at a group of protesters I was in, so I took him aside (to keep him away from everyone else) and started asking him questions about why he thought what he did. "Oh, I had never thought of it that way before." It's a deescalation tactic.

But what you're afraid of is probably not going to kill you. The most dangerous animal in the world is the mosquito. More people die from deer than sharks. It's healthy to put ourselves in unfamiliar or unpredictable places and talk to different people. But people live in fear because they're not used to going into unfamiliar situations without an insurance policy or step-by-step instructions, but it's only through that do we learn how to deal with unpredictable environments or people getting angry at you.

idk if this is late, but read this. It'll take like ten minutes. The main thing is to be normal, be confident, be polite and friendly. You're not some lunatic radical, you're a normal person who wants what's best for people. You might open people's minds to new ideas, you might not. If you're completely new to this, I would *highly* recommend volunteering for a charity or a union or some other org to get some experience of working on the street. If your goal is just to get the idea of socialism in people's heads, maybe start with making people actually think about the lives they're currently living and try open them up to the idea that it doesn't have to be this way and a better world can be won. good luck.

Working through your anxiety is just a matter of doing it a bunch.

Also flyering is ineffective in 99% of the cases in modern times. Put up posters and stickers instead. Your goal with flyering is spreading information and stickers and posters are more effective. If your goal is meeting people interested in your party in general, try social media and protests. If you goal is to convince the general population, get involved in organising unions or renters groups or stuff like that, get into newspapers with statements accompanying actions, you must link your politics to something concrete.

We aren't /pol/, we aren't degenerate rightists. Even if you have nothing to look forward to, you can still gain by giving a little bit of your time and energy to help others, and often this will exceed its cost.

Try something else. I had a friend before who was very uninhibited and did that as a job and he said it was soul crushing. Maybe a bit melodramatic but it sucks, that‘s the gist. Plus, that simply doesn‘t sound effective. Use the internet or other means. You will spend a lot of time and effort for little in return.

You can easily do more harm than good to your organization by sperging to random strangers about communism. Try to find other ways to spread propaganda that feels more natural for you and the stranger.

OP here. I did it for 20 minutes before I got too nervous. I didn't get anyone e-mail me back, but the activity gave me a lot of confidence so overall it was a victory. I'm going to employ the unused flyers as posters. Thank you to all who made supportive replies!

There's a passage in Malcolm X's autobio about him talking to people on the street. He had a real talent for it, but part of it was that he had common experience with the people he was talking to, knew what they were going through, and that talent for knowing both what they wanted to hear and what they needed to hear.

In general people love to talk, and the thing they love to talk about most is themselves. Ask them what's going on in their lives, ask them how they're doing, what their problems are. They'll give you plenty of material to work with.

Don't get discouraged. It's kinda like dating. You'll get a hundred rejections, but that one success makes up for all the rest. Don't take it personally, just try and learn from every encounter, move on, and experiment.
