Peterson's criticism of Marxism are so shallow.
How did he gain steam with these shallow arguments?
Post modernism? That's a criticism of Marxism. It called Marxism a metanarrative. Why is he conflating the two?
Now he's testifying before congress agaisnt china for it's social score.whats wrong with the social score?

 No.1792082

You can get really far if you say things people want to hear and sound slightly intelligent while doing it.

 No.1792086

And I mean intelligent to people who have no idea what post-modernism is, of course. Having a PHD after his name does a lot of the heavy lifting in giving the impression he knows what he is talking about.

 No.1792087

If you think that's bad, you should listen to the "WhatIfAltHist" criticism of Marxism. Reactionaries only study Marxism by telling scary stories around a campfire, they're worried if they actually try to read the texts they'll get "infected".

 No.1792089

Anon, a majority of people don't know what communism is. Jordan Peterson has as much knowledge of communism as any chump on the street. As long as you use big words and talk in a calm stoic voice you can make a buck off of right wingers

 No.1792090

His criticism is relatively sophisticated by average burger standards.
Grade-school anticommunism delivered with conviction. Says things they already agree with. And he's a professor of whatever.
Winning formula.

Well, that's like the selling point of social media, from "the blogosphere" or whatever to today's "content creators". Things like bloggers aspiring to materialize a lapdog column in MSM, to be cited as "experts" and quoted, by sheer force of popularity.

Is that all Peterson is though? Some self-help guru grifter recruited into the establishment once his cult got big enough? There is an infinite supply of those surely there is more to Peterson than winning the lapdog lottery.

>Is that all Peterson is though? Some self-help guru grifter recruited into the establishment once his cult got big enough?
No, that's basically it.
>There is an infinite supply of those surely there is more to Peterson than winning the lapdog lottery.
You would think, but Peterson is special in that he maintains a facade of academic credibility despite talking about subjects outside his expertise.

Peterson is kind of a Cold War holdover dadcore Randian libertarian and the counter-enlightenment to the Sam Harris-style New Atheist hyper-rational enlightenment. He wants to get all the logic worshipping autists in touch with their irrational, mythical anima and chase the dragon away to restore the individual to its rightful place at the top of all dominance hierarchies. His rules are an "antidote for chaos" which means you don't have to reconsider your assumptions about your worldview or integrate any complexity into your thinking. His argument is that there are successful and unsuccessful societies, and the only successful ones are liberal democratic bourgeois capitalist states.

Therefore, socialism doesn't work and Marxists are just delusional egomaniacs who say "it'll work next time!" and this is what "Marxism" is for a lot of liberals and whatever blend of right-wing putz there is. The Marxist who says "well sure socialism hasn't worked in the past, but that's because we just haven't done it the right way!" But he's shadowboxing this while really fighting other neoliberals as the system backfires on itself, which creates the desperate need for certainty and fuels a drive to dominate and control. He's like a merchant of certainty.

Such people tend to be rabid moralists. It provides a patchwork to hold the fragmented and incomstistent beliefs together.

Peterson was a competent, if unknown Canadian psychologist who gained fame for being filmed arguing with left wing students on a video that went viral. I think the reason he has been successful is because so many academics lean left than conservatives and right wingers were hungry for a figure with academic credentials who agreed with them. The same way they bitch about Hollywood liberal actors, etc. but as soon as a celebrity expresses conservative ideas they immediately start sucking them off (Kid rock, Kanye). Even Trump was a reality tv show celebrity (and Reagan was an actor).

Bottom line is Peterson's popularity is mostly about a dearth of intellectual talent on the right, not because his ideas are especially profound or really even that different from any other random academic.

That is, quite literally, it.

He also rallied against pronouns or something in the Canadian parliament. Frankly, I think it's hilarious he still has fans after the embarrassing Zizek debate and hardcore benzo addiction. The guy is considered a massive clown in psychology and psychiatry.

Theyre not illiterate. I tire of people always blaming all the flaws of civil nature onto America.

Alot of other countries have the same kind of biases. The alt right has shown me that anti intellectualism isnt exclsuively an American trait.
Ive seen even more absurd anti intellectualism on Whats App chats

He was formerly a typical liberal, but lost his shit when he thought that trans people were telling him what to do. Now he's just sort of embraced the grift.

He uses Jungian psychobabble to make conservative positions sound really profound. That's on top of being an academic and, which lends an air of authority to anything he says. It doesn't really matter that he doesn't know what he's talking about half the time since his whole grift revolves around just repeating what his audience already believes back to them.

It applies to everyone from Vladimir Putin and Francis Fukuyama to Haz "two holes" Infrared and Whatifalthist "I couldn't come up with a more pitiful example". It also applied to Tito, Khruschev, Kautsky, and every other revisionist ever. Arguments that make no sense on a critcal examination are freely used all the time.

If you say things that are incrementally more obviously false, you slowly filter out your audience to only those illiterate enough to still believe what you're saying. Then you create / integrate with communities of people that can acclimate kids to the resulting worldview.

It's why conventional scams don't bother to get more believable over time, you want people that are dumb enough that they don't have smarter friends to talk them out of bad financial decisions. This has always been a tool of rallying political support as well. It's just post-Q conservativism has managed to take it unprecedentedly far thanks to SEO.

Wasn't he babbling about how marxism was destroying america but he never even read the communist manifesto, the most easily digestable book of Marx and Engels, before losing his debate with Zizek? He doesn't even know what he is criticizing.
