I know this is a dumb right-wing meme, but being unemployed for a couple of months made it kinda relatable, in a way. I'm just wondering how capitalism works. How do I into the economics in Marxism? You know, I just want to see how truly fucked I am. Is there any school of thought or material focused on this? I'm not really interested right now in the whole geopolitics and AES talk, Twitter is enough.

Unironically just read Marx. He isn't even hard except for a few terms he uses that might confuse some people at first.

This is so stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't surplus just extra money (a.k.a profit) acquired in the market by the selling of products in the market, excluded costs of maintenance and wages? It is, by definition, "theft"/exploitation of one class upon other. This idea should be treated as an axiom. Non-marxists either genuinely do not understand this, or they make moral excuses trying to justify it in favor of the dominant class.

Iirc marxism never says capitalists are "stealing" your surplus value but the opposite, that it "rightfully" belongs to the bourgeoisie. The proletariat has no stake in getting a "fair" share of value, its class interest lies in the complete abolition of mercantile, value-producing society altogether. It is not a question of distribution of surplus-value but its negation.

Surplus-value is the social product which is over and above what is required for the producers to live.

The measure of value is socially necessary labour time. Each particular commodity represents only a certain share of the socially necessary labour time. The magnitude of value is determined by the amount of socially necessary labour, or by the labour time that is socially necessary for the production of a given commodity, of a given use-value. Surplus value is the accumulated product of the unpaid labour time of the producers. In bourgeois society, surplus value is acquired by the capitalist in the form of profit: the capitalist owns the means of production as Private Property, so the workers have no choice but to sell their labour-power to the capitalists in order to live. The capitalist then owns not only the means of production, and the workers’ labour-power which he has bought to use in production, but the product as well. After paying wages, the capitalist then becomes the owner of the surplus value, over and above the value of the workers’ labour-power.

Labour-power is the combination of mental and physical capabilities existing in a human being, which one exercises whenever one produces a use-value of any description.

In order that labor power is a commodity, the following conditions must be met:

1: The individual whose labour-power it is… sells it as a commodity. In order that he may be able to do this, he must have it at his disposal, must be the untrammelled owner of his capacity for labour, i.e., of his person. He and the owner of money meet in the market, and deal with each other as on the basis of equal rights, with this difference alone, that one is buyer, the other seller; both, therefore, equal in the eyes of the law. The continuance of this relation demands that the owner of the labour-power should sell it only for a definite period, for if he were to sell it rump and stump, once for all, he would be selling himself, converting himself from a free man into a slave, from an owner of a commodity into a commodity.

2: the labourer instead of being in the position to sell commodities in which his labour is incorporated, must be obliged to offer for sale as a commodity that very labour-power, which exists only in his living self.

For the conversion of his money into capital, therefore, the owner of money must meet in the market with the free labourer, free in the double sense, that as a free man he can dispose of his labour-power as his own commodity, and that on the other hand he has no other commodity for sale, is short of everything necessary for the realisation of his labour-power.

If business owner was like this like he is presented and not a wage thief like in reality, he wouldn't be facing criticism.

also the example given is absurd. it more resembles some kind of pre-capitalist artisanal guild master taking in a new journeyman than it resembles any kind of contemporary capitalist business.

I included a very very entry level video.

If you want to read Marx himself, I would advice you to start with Wage Labour and Capital
https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/wage-labour/

The fundamental problem with that image is the following:
You employer, the capitalist system, is not a force of nature, it is just other people. Their power over you is something we can change, having to eat food is not something we can change as of now.

And ironically, the comic you posted points to the fact that humans do fix the "oppression of nature", we grow food rather than hunt and forage. But oppression is a social concept, it is done by humans to humans. If nature was a god, capable of feeding us, but not doing so, then that could would be oppressing us, as it is a conscious act to keep us down. But nature is not a god, it has no intent, it just is.

>We are being oppressed by nature
This is literally true and anyone who denies or is even surprised by the truth of this claim is either a theist or a crypto-theist.

The comic ignores private property. If someone owns the river, you can't just fish because that's stealing. If someone owns the forest and animals then hunting would also be illegal. With private property you would be "oppressed" by the landlord and whatever security forces he has.

Interestingly the comic already assumes a primitive communism, meaning only nature has to be contended with and the need for food motivates you, not needing to make a profit for a capitalist.
