i watched a 2 hr documentary about the history of RPGs ,and this game was named by that particular documentarian as the most impactful RPG of the 2010s. And that meant a lot, considering the guy making the video was a bit of a right winger and complained in a separate video about ZA/UM thanking Marx in their acceptance speech and used it as an example of how "left leaning" the games industry as a whole allegedly is

Christ, I really, really wanted to love this game but something about dice-roll chances just kills the whole thing for me. I tried playing along with it for a while, but I feel like every time I really wanted the story to swing a certain way the game just said "lol nah son" and gave me an L. It doesn't help that when your character fails, they fail HARD, usually making himself look like a complete idiot in the process. It was fun to try to adapt to the unexpected the first few times, but after a while it just got really old. Still, it's a clever and really interesting game, but I don't feel like I'm really in control of anything when I play this, and that's kind of an issue for me. Maybe I'll come back and give this one a second chance one day, but it might be a while. A lot of people will love this, I'm just not one of them.
Yes, I have a lot of experience with tabletop games and dice-roll mechanics. I took the advice of a friend and tried to specialize my character in 2 attributes, but still never made those rolls for those attributes. From what I've heard elsewhere, I understand I was one of the more unlucky people who played this. I'm down to give it another chance sometime, but I'm still a little salty at losing all of those high-percentage rolls. In TTG you have a party and a DM to lean on to ensure you can still find success and have fun, and I don't feel like this game has similar systems to ensure that happens. I'm glad a lot of people had fun with DE, maybe I'll get lucky and have some fun with it next time.
